Skills ride of (not so) recent

We’ve been trying to have a successful Skills Ride for quite some time.  Finally, almost a month ago, we got our shiz together and got a good number of people out for some good ol’ fashioned handling drills.

Ben took point on the whole operation and props to him.  Sometime in the past, he had found a church parking, and while it was bombed-out in places, it had nicely painted lines for some various exercises.

We started with some slow races, head-to-head, with two racing running at the same time.  The goal was to be the last one to cross the line without riding outside of the isle between the two lines.  The isle was about 1.5 ft. wide.  Below are some noobs (term used endearing) taking a stab at it.

All hands and all feet on the bike was a total success.  Thus, we decided to move on and make it a bit more complicated.  One hand or one foot off the bike.  I can’t remember who won (got there last).  I’ll say it was me:

It was wild and crazy, but we moved on to one hand and one foot ONLY!  Preston demonstrates his skills

I then suggested to Ben, since things were going well, that we play The Box.  No, not the movie that got horrible reviews.  The Box Game.  There was a giant green square in the parking lot.  Going clockwise, then counter-clockwise, we tried to force people out of the box in a fun, loving manner.

Craig and I then left behind the trainees to continue on a long ride; we needed to get in some more hours.  It was a good skills ride, I perfected the Superman but someone never got a photo of it.

On the Exploratory Ride we embarked.  We found a back-way to one of the industrial parks around the Cambridge Reservoir that (don’t tell anyone) will be the future site for our Speed Skills Clinic.  On a weekend, it will be the perfect spot for a crit practice and to get people working or their cornering and sprinting.
