Done-zo

With yesterday’s Salem Witch’s Cup Criterium my season has officially finished for the summer. There may be a few Wells Ave races and maybe a race or two in September, but really that’s it. Needless to say, it’s a sad relief…

It’s a relief because I am so very sore; my recovery just hasn’t been quite up to par the last three weeks and that one game of squash I played on Monday didn’t really help.

It’s sad simply because racing with Green Line Velo has been one hell of a ride. Racing with 5-6 teammates who ride legitimate support and even having to ride support for others has been a blast. Not like I haven’t had teammates in my BU kit during collegiate season, but even just a few more teammates in the field with you makes such a huge difference. Not having classes to really worry about has really helped me enjoy the summer racing as well, along with being about to chill out with the entire team at every chance possible.

So I’ve done at least 3-times more racing this summer that I did last summer; starting at Lake Auburn, culminating in Fitchburg, and ending with the Witch’s Cup. At the Witch’s cup, I was cursed with rider number 13, in Salem, or all places. I wore it upside-down, as is traditional, but sometimes the Pros and national champions are just too fast for a recently upgraded Cat. 3.

I’d have a photo here to illustrate this fact but Katie Steere can’t seem to take a solid non-blurred photo…

Well back to Boston University…not like I’m not already here, living on campus for free…but to the cycling team. Another sad relief is my leaving the Presidency of BU Cycling. A relief because I don’t actually have to run the team’s logistics anymore and I’ll have a ton more free time, but sad because I’m sure I’ll have withdrawal and it’s going to be hard. I’m sure I speak not only for myself, but for Natan as well (who was riding in the Alps the last month, by the way…). However bittersweet this goodbye may be, Natan and I have left the team in the capable hands of Robert, Preston, Ian, and Garge. And while these boys will get stuff done with little to no hassle put on me, I’m excited to actually have time to train this year.

More to come later. Next installment: Why I don’t Ride Triathlons
